Mr. Cavendish, I Presume
Two Dukes of Wyndham, Book 2

by Julia Quinn

In book 2 of her Two Dukes of Wyndham series, Julia Quinn reintroduces the four main characters:  Amelia Willoughby, Thomas Cavendish the Duke of Wyndham, Jack Audley, and Grace Eversleigh. These four people and their intertwining relationships overlap between the two books.  In Mr. Cavendish, I Presume, Thomas, always known for doing what's right, is confronted with a dilemma when his long-lost cousin Jack surfaces, along with questions about who is the rightful Duke of Wyndham.

In addition, the quietly intelligent Amelia, who has been engaged to the disinterested Thomas her entire life, begins to feel old and moldy at the age of twenty-one.  As soon as he gets to really know her and his interest in his promised bride finally develops, Thomas faces the reality that he may lose his title and his bride by the reappearance of his cousin.  Grace, the hired companion of the Dowager Duchess of Wyndham, links to all three characters in her own unique way.  As the truth becomes known, these interconnected relationships evolve and change.

Quinn weaves a fascinating tale of passion and power with a satisfying conclusion.  The humorous dialogue and engaging writing style will hold readers captive, along with the knowledge that everyone knows a person like the cranky old dowager, who never has a nice word to say about anybody.  With or without the companion book (The Lost Duke of Wyndham, May 2008), Mr. Cavendish, I Presume delivers a lively romantic read.
