No Escape
by Shannon K. Butcher
As a first time reader of Butcher, I have to say I was enthralled. The plot varied from suspenseful, sensual to
heartbreaking at times. The characters were strong, even the villain, and the story, addressing the need for safe
homes for foster children, is to be applauded. I will certainly be adding this author to my reading list.
Isabelle knows her friends are being murdered, but no one believes her. All she can do is hope no one else gets
hurt. To make sure that happens, she pleads with them to be careful and calls on a friend and hero from her past.
Grant saved her from being molested when she was in foster care and, above all else, she wants to keep him out of
harm's way.
Grant is used to being in the way of danger. Retired now from special forces, he is looking forward to working
with his buddies on more peaceful ground. When he gets the call from Isabelle, instead of blowing off her pleas to
be careful, his instincts kick in. He arrives on her doorstep to hear the tale that several of their foster siblings
are dead by apparent suicide. When someone tampers with Isabelle's car, the police and Grant believe it is a man who
is angry that Isabelle is his son's foster mom. More accidents happen, and soon Grant has his hands full doing all
he can to keep the people he is beginning to love safe.
Excellent drama is employed in this book. Emotions are on key and even though you know who the killer is almost
from the beginning, you still can't be sure he will be caught. |
