One Foot in the Grave
A Night Huntress Novel #2
by Jeaniene Frost
I have to say that I am digging (pun intended) this series by Jeaniene Frost. This is the follow up installment to
her first book in the Night Huntress series,
Halfway to the Grave. The main character, that goes by the name of Cat, is oddly enough a half-vampire
half-human mix. Even more bizarre is Cat’s chosen profession of working as a special agent for the US government
hunting and killing rogue vampires!
What I really enjoy about the Night Huntress series so far is that the vampires that can do more things. Ms.
Frost’s vamps can go out in the daylight, aren’t put off by holy relics and the standard "issues" that past vampire
novels and movies have inflicted upon their characters. This allows for a lot more action / adventure and realistic
plot development. Lets face it, there’s only so much you can get done at night without drawing attention to yourself.
Ms. Frost has listed her novels as Urban Fantasy Romance, which is a bit confusing for me. While there is some
pretty hot and heavy romance, and it is in an urban setting, it has more of a paranormal feel to me. Especially
with the vampire and ghoul aspects. Bordering on a bit of horror. In a nutshell, if you are looking for an action
packed book / series, the Night Huntress Cat and her sexy boyfriend Bones are sure to please. Rumor has it that
Avon Books has contracted THREE more books for this series! I can’t wait to see what comes next. |
