On Tall Pine Lake

by Dorothy Garlock

Dorothy Garlock is an exceptional author. With superb writing and real life characters, On Tall Pine Lake is an enjoyable and entertaining novel.

On Tall Pine Lake intermingles romance with suspense so well the pages practically turn themselves. Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down.

On Tall Pine Lake is the 50th novel by Dorothy Garlock.

Nona Conrad accepts a job managing a fishing camp in Southeastern Arkansas. She moves to On Tall Pine Lake with her fourteen-year old sister, Maggie, and her best friend, Mabel. Nona, who is twelve years older than Maggie, has been taking care of her for a few years now, ever since their parents' sudden and untimely deaths. Shortly before moving to On Tall Pine Lake Nona receives a suspicious package from her half-brother, Harold, and an even more suspicious letter.

Simon Wright occupies the cabin right next door and as it turns out he's also the new owner of the fishing camp and Nona's employer. Every word he says irritates Nona. Maggie and Mabel immediately warm up to the mysterious Mr. Wright but Nona is leery of him and can't shake the feeling that she's seen him somewhere before. When Simon forbids Nona from leaving the camp without him, she fears he is unbalanced. But then she finds out that Simon is her half-brother, Harold's, cousin and Harold is on the run after stealing a very substantial amount of both money and jewels from the bank he had worked for.

Webb and Frank follow Nona and Maggie to On Tall Pine Lake looking for the money and jewels Harold had taken. A couple of other unscrupulous guests sign in at the camp for the same reason. All of them are convinced that Nona knows where Harold is or where the money and jewels are. On a stormy night things come to a head after a kidnapping takes place, a dead body appears, and shots fill the air.
