Hannah Matthews has taken time from her public relations executive position in New York to travel to Seaview, a
small island town off the coast of Florida. She hopes to persuade her 85 year old grandmother to sell the family's
Seaview Inn and go into a retirement home.
Hannah is recovering from chemo treatment for breast cancer and it’s only a month after her mother's death from
breast cancer. But her grandmother refuses to go into a retirement home and plans to reopen the Seaview Inn.
To compound Hannah's problems, her 20 year old daughter, Kelsey, announces that she is pregnant, and will not
marry the baby's father, Jeff, even though she loves him. Kelsey is going to leave Stanford College in California,
and return to Seaview to "find herself" and have the baby. Kelsey throws herself into the reopening of the Inn,
finding this is what she wants as a career.
Then there is Dr. Luke Stevens, a one time crush of Hannah's, who is back because of an injury sustained in Iraq
where he had volunteered his medical service. His marriage had ended in divorce while he was in service in Iraq.
His wife married his former medical practice partner. He finds contentment in Seaview, helping Grandma Jenny fix
the Inn for the reopening, and discovering his love for Hannah. Hannah, struggling with her uncertain future
because of the possibility of recurring cancer, fights against her reawakened feeling for Luke.
An enjoyable and heartwarming story about a family beset by problems which they must find a way to solve.
Hannah's struggle with breast cancer and her finally being able to cope with it with the support of love is
gratifying. The characters are all people to whom we can relate: especially Grandma Jenny who resists being forced
to retire, and Kelsey who finds that she can be herself and still marry and have a family.
A delightful, easy read with a sense of understanding and with the atmosphere of an island town.
