The Seduction of An Unknown Lady
by Samantha James
New York Times best-selling author Samantha James introduces two highly intriguing characters in the
spellbinding romance The Seduction of an Unknown Lady. In 19th century London, bookshop owner Fionna
Hawkes leads a secret double life as F.J. Sparrow, a highly popular novelist who writes grisly stories about
monsters and murders... and about a budding romance between her two central characters. When Fionna meets a
handsome, but wounded, retired military man during one of her midnight strolls for inspiration, she begins to
feel like one of the characters in her series of books.
Ignoring her curt dismissals and angry disclaimers, the provocative Aidan McBride (brother of the Duke of
Gleneden) still manages to enter her bookstore, enter her thoughts, and enter her life. Aidan proves himself to
be a fierce soldier in the battle to win Fionna’s heart and protect her from a mysterious (and potentially
dangerous) secret admirer. His seduction of the reluctant "unknown lady" is methodical, persistent, and
thorough - a true seduction that her repeated protests cannot possibly withstand.
Despite a serious eye injury and emotional trauma left over from his time working as a military strategist in
India, Aidan is determined to ensure her safety and discover all her secrets. Besides her writing career, Fionna
also hides the fact that her mother lives in an insane asylum. She fears that knowledge of her situation will
doom the relationship with Aidan.
James’s writing flows nicely throughout, and she carefully interweaves the plot of the story with the
narrative from one of Fionna’s novels. The characters are engaging, the story humorous, intricate and
unexpected, and the sizzling seduction enormously entertaining. The Seduction of an Unknown Lady is a
delightful and memorable example of just how good historical romances can be. |
