Someone To Love
by Jude Deveraux
Wealthy businessman and young scion of the Montgomery clan Jace is still mourning the death of his fiancée Stacy.
When he finds a cryptic note written on the back of the photo of a house, he goes to England - and buys it. Now
the owner of Priory House, he is determined to discover why Stacy should have committed suicide rather than marry
him, and what the house has to do with it. But Priory House has more than one mystery about it, and its notorious
ghost, the shade of a 17th century highwaywoman, has scared off previous owners.
I just love Ms Deveraux’s books, especially her later ones which have contemporary settings and a touch of
fantasy and mystery. This one is no exception, keeping the reader wondering why Stacy killed herself, about the
identity of the ghost (or ghosts), and various other things that would be plot spoilers if mentioned here. Jace
makes for a sensitive hero, and Nigh is a lively heroine - characters suitable for modern readers tired of alpha
males and wimpish or brattish females! With her usual skill - the skill of a practiced novelist - Ms Deveraux
balances romance, mystery and fantasy to make a book that ought to please quite a wide range of readers. This
same juggling act also manages to make the book just the right length, with continual plot developments to keep
the reader’s interest. If I needed reminding why I enjoy this author so much, this book would do the trick. |
