Talk of the Town, by Sherrill Bodine, is a great book and one that makes sense to read on a winter weekend
sitting by a blazing fire!
Rebecca Covington is a gossip columnist, and is really good at the job which she has had for most of her adult
life. The newspaper that she works for has been recently sold and speaking from experience, I have found that new
management frequently means changes in the personnel. The same is true for Rebecca. The new owner wants someone new
and younger to take over the successful column that Rebecca has slaved over for years. How would you feel? Probably
exactly the way Rebecca does: devastated. As a consolation, they offer her another column in the Home and Food
section of the paper. The only problem is, Rebecca does not cook! How will she pull this off? Better yet, how will
she get her old job back?
Showing her face in the city that she loves proves to be even worse than losing her job. Everyone is looking at
her, feeling sorry for her and pointing at her when she walks into the stores she loves. That alone would be the
last straw for many people, but not for Rebecca. She has decided to make the best of a terrible situation and do
whatever it takes to show the new owner that he has made a mistake.
David Sumners is a wealthy man, very successful and gorgeous, but death has taken the most precious thing from
him, his adoring wife Ellen. Everything in business that he touches turns to success. He could have any woman in
the world, but seeing Rebecca across the room at a party has the businessman smitten and confused. How can he have
the life he’d worked for with someone other than the wife he adored? Does he deserve this? All of these pressing
questions will cause concern in this game called love.
As I said at the beginning of this review, this is a great little book. Well written, a great story and just the
right amount of romance to keep you interested in reading more. Congrats Sherrill, I loved it!
