Elizabeth’s Rake
Darcy Sister Trilogy, Book 3
by Emily Johnson
Elizabeth is the youngest of the Dancy sisters, and the only one still unmarried. You can
read about Victoria’s romance in The Fashionable Spy (also
reviewed on this site) and
Julia’s romance in Julia’s Spirit (Amazon
US ||
UK). Now it is
Elizabeth’s turn, and she is currently living with her aunt and cousins in rural Surrey.
The Valentine’s Day ball approaches, and who is getting an invitation because he is in the
area visiting his sick father? None other than the man who loved to tease Elizabeth back when
she was living in London: Lord David Leighton. She is prepared for more of the same, but when
he comes through her bedroom window at night—she shoots him!
This final part of the trilogy sees Elizabeth putting her spying skills to the test to
discover who or what is making David’s father so ill—can somebody be trying to poison
him, and who? This adds an extra dimension to what is already another very enjoyable story,
and it gives a good idea of what life must have been like in one of the great country houses
during this era. As always with Ms Johnson (aka Emily Hendrickson), you can expect a thorough
underpinning of sound historical knowledge, enabling the happy reader to lose herself in the
Regency period. Entertaining and enjoyable as usual. |
