Show No Fear
Navy SEAL Series
by Marliss Melton
CIA agent Lucy Donovan has been trained to force her way into situations where most others
would flee. Although she has survived plenty of dangerous missions, the last one was so
upsetting that she developed post-traumatic stress disorder and fears it will prevent her
from doing the job she loves. To make matters even worse, on her last assignment her former
college boyfriend, Navy SEAL Gus Atwater, had to come to her rescue.
Now, ten months later, Lucy and Gus must work undercover as the married couple Luna and
Gustavo Aguiler, who unfortunately for them must speak only Spanish. Their assignment is to
work with U.N. representatives in Colombia in order to free two American captives. The work
will entail hiking through the jungle, sleeping on the ground, traipsing through dangerous
waters, and dealing with other dangers such as malaria, snakes, landmines, and terrorists.
As Lucy and Gus reconnect during the assignment, old feelings come into play. Soon they
are dreaming of a honeymoon on a romantic sunny beach—or at least one of them is.
First they need to survive the deadly ordeal in which they find themselves, and then they
both must confront some unresolved issues.
From Melton’s continuing series of Navy SEAL heroes, the title Show No Fear refers
to the work at hand and the developing relationship between Lucy and Gus. Although mosquitoes,
ticks, and jungle rot don’t sound very romantic, the author manages to squeeze in some love
and lust in between the military action and terrorist activities. The romantic subplot is
easy to predict—as most romances are—but the main story about rescuing the
captives will keep readers excitedly turning pages. Melton doesn’t delve too deeply into
gory details about violent acts, or love acts either for that matter, but she pays plenty
of attention to developing a riveting story of action and suspense. |
