I remember reading Foster’s short stories in the anthologies
Sinful and
Hot Chocolate.
Back then I predicted she was "blazing ahead as a contemporary author." When I came across
Harlequin at Audible.com, I thought how prophetic it was to see her work under the Harlequin "Blaze"
line. Although I wasn’t surprised to see one of her audiobooks front and center. Lori Foster has
the ability to draw a reader / listener into her characters’ relationships where they experience,
more than observe, her characters’ budding or rekindling love.
In this short story, Kelli has always known Roddick as a nerdy sort of guy. The kind a girl
keeps as a "friend only." Roddick is physically attracted to Kelli, but knows their friendship
will always be platonic... That is until they’re stranded and forced to see each other in a more
intimate setting... When Kelli and Roddick are snowbound with one bed and not much else they find
plenty of time to share their personal thoughts and physical desires. As you listen to the story
you can’t help but wonder if they’re going to walk away in love or in loss....
The short story is well-written and narrator Lauren Fortgang’s presentation is smooth, making
the audio version of "Stranded" deliciously entertaining. Foster’s characters are engaging and, as
always, totally unabashed—the perfect mixture for a passionate contemporary romance.
