Abandon the Night
Awakening Heroes Series, book 3
by Joss Ware
Before the apocalypse, Quentin Fielding was a hot guy with lots of money—now he's
just a hot guy. He isn't sure where he fits in this new world, but he knows he has to kill
his father, an evil Stranger whom he blames for the end of the world. Quentin slept through
the apocalypse through some spooky magic involving "ley lines" and hasn't aged for the last
fifty years. This makes it a lot easier to score a hot girlfriend—which he does. Zoe
is a zombie killing, butt kicking, tough chick who is driven by her own need for revenge
against the man who killed her entire family by feeding them to zombies.
For the most part, everyone gets their revenge pretty easily in this third installment in
the series, but then—you have to have room for all the sex. The post-apocalyptic world
is busy! The references to the pre-apocalyptic world are often funny and interesting. And I
like any book with zombies. But overall, the plot of this felt a little slight—everything
seemed just a little too easy (well, except the romance. We all know romance can never be easy).
I have to admit, I enjoyed Zoe's spunky nature and found her a nice contrast to Quent (who
maybe seemed the slightest bit whiny). So if you're mainly interested in romance in a unique
setting, this novel should suit you just fine. |
