A Most Sinful Proposal
The Husband Hunters Club series, No 2
By Sara Bennett
In the second installment of her Husband Hunters Club series, author
Sara Bennett presents the story of Marissa Rotherhild, a recent
graduate of Miss Debenham’s Finishing School, who seeks a
carefree young man to be her husband. Having grown up in a serious
household with horticulture experts, she yearns for a life of laughter
and frivolity. When she accepts George Kent’s invitation to
a house party, she plans to set her husband-hunting plan into motion,
but instead discovers that George isn’t even home when she
arrives. In fact, the scoundrel has gone off gambling and cavorting,
which leaves only his widowed older brother, Valentine, to play
host to Marissa and her chaperoning grandmother.
Although Lord Valentine Kent believes Marissa to be the most beautiful
woman he’s ever met, he’s reluctant to spend time alone
with someone enamored of his brother. Indeed, Valentine would much
prefer to be tracking down the extremely rare Crusader’s Rose,
which he has researched for most of his life. When the crazed Baron
Augustus Von Hautt starts committing crimes in his equally enthusiastic
search for the elusive Rose, Valentine, Marissa, and the newly arrived
George go after him. Throughout the adventure, Marissa finds herself
drawing closer to the serious Rose expert (so much like her parents)
and drawing away from her originally intended bridegroom, George.
As in Led
Astray By A Rake, the first novel in this series, A Most
Sinful Proposal is a delight to read. A well-plotted story, highly
developed characters, teasing sexuality, and intriguing subplots
make this a memorable addition to the genre that will hook readers
by the first chapter. The author provides a few clues about Von
Hautt’s motives, the Kent household spy, and the whereabouts
of the Crusader’s Rose. The Husband Hunters Club series promises
to provide more great stories for avid romance readers who enjoy
flirtatious dialogue, growing physical relationships, and unusual
historical dramas surrounding a group of girls who form a club to
track down appropriate husbands for themselves.
