At Last Comes Love
Huxtable Family Series – Book III
By Mary Balogh
Five years ago, Duncan Pennethorne, Earl of Sheringford shocked
society with a scandal. Now he wants to come back, but his
grandfather says that he will cut Duncan out of his will and give
his childhood home to a cousin unless he mends his ways and marries
within a fortnight. So Duncan is desperate for a respectable
wife, and who better than on-the-shelf Margaret Huxtable?
Thirty years old and still beautiful Margaret is in need of a husband.
Will Duncan fit the bill? And what exactly happened five years
ago?
Here is the story of the third Huxtable sister and her second chance
at romance. Once again much of the passion and romance actually
happens after the couple has married, and Duncan has to woo his
new wife. There are secrets from the past to confront too,
and both protagonists have to face their mistakes and realize that
a fresh start can be achieved. London during the Season comes
to life; although there is less about this than in the other books,
and of course we get to meet up with Margeret’s family and
their new families too. I did feel that some of what happens
in this book echoes closely events in the earlier books and therefore
parts of it lack freshness. Also, I felt that it could have
stood some editing being longer than many other Regency romances
and a tauter tale would have had more impact. But this is
still a polished story from a mistress of the genre and I look forward
to seeing what romance the two male Huxtables are going to face
in the remaining two volumes.
