Sands pulls you in every time with heroes who literally take your breath away, and heroines
who can stand up to them. This third in her Highland series is awesome. When I read the first,
and then the second, I just didn’t think she could make the third even better, but she did.
Thank you Ms. Sands! Romance abounds, and the return of characters from her first two books,
Devil of the Highlands
and Taming the
Highland Bride, also reviewed at Myshelf, made this an excellent read.
Kade Stewart’s return home, after being imprisoned three years in a foreign land, is
interrupted when his ship goes down. He awakens at the home of his good friend, and finds Averill,
his host, reading to him. Even with his eyesight fuzzy, he sees a beautiful woman. A woman who
begins to burrow into his heart before she even knows he’s awake.
Averill has self-image problems. Every man her father parades in front of her as a suitor
finds her lacking. The mane of red hair is too brassy, the mark on her cheek comes from the Devil,
and the stammering when with strangers makes it even worse. So when Kade, a Highland Warrior,
tells her she is beautiful, she has a hard time believing him. When he asks for her hand in
marriage, she is doubtful he will ever love her, but more than willing to be his bride.
On their journey to, and after their arrival at his home in Scotland, Kade is beset by several
accidents that leave him injured. Intrigue follows when they try to find a missing chest,
search for Kade’s attacker, and realize love is worth more than all the gold in the world.
