Although I have not read the first two books in Kearney's Pendragon Legacy series, I enjoyed
the witticisms, the sexual encounters, and the romance in her third. This is a futuristic book
with a different spin in the plot. Jordan is pegged as being Merlin way back in his younger days,
and Viviane is a determined woman trying to save her planet Earth from extinction. This duo is
dynamite as they traverse the galaxies, fight evil, and find there is always time for love.
Viviane Blackstone's mission is to find the Holy Grail in order to keep Earth from being
destroyed by the Tribes—an organization that is trying to overtake all the planets in
the galaxies, if they can't they blow them to bits. Jordan, her chief engineer, comes to her with
a wonderful resume, but she discovers he is nothing but a liar. When he tells her he is over a
thousand years old and is also on a vendetta to stop The Tribes—they destroyed his home
planet and family—she thinks he's wacko. That is until he jumpstarts their space ship with
an Ancient Staff he claims is magical. The catch, he too needs the Holy Grail.
Vi fascinates Jordan, but she acts like she is in command. Something he cannot allow to happen.
If she follows the rules, it could be too late to save Earth. He uses his staff to power the ship
and they hyperjump into space where they are engaged in battle. In between fighting for their lives,
he finds he is having marathon thoughts of making love to the beautiful and seductive Vi. Thoughts
that are returned, due in part to the Ancient Staff. With crewmembers depending on him and Vi, they
both have to draw the line on their libidos and concentrate on their mission.
Life takes even more of a dangerous turn when King Arthur—yes, he is still alive and a
galactic icon—gives them help in finding the missing stones needed to empower the staff to
connect with the Holy Grail and in essence defeat the Tribes. The only problem is once this happens
Jordan will die. Viviane and Jordan both must do what they can to save the universe but wonder if
gaining the world, while losing their newfound love, will be worth the ultimate sacrifice.
