Lord Ware’s Widow

By Emily Harland

Lady Georgiana Ware might be the Dowager Marchioness of Ware, but she has never been out in society, and leads a reclusive life in her dower house tending her roses. Married to an elderly peer at a young age, she is tentatively entering society by attending Lady Kenyon’s house party. Also attending is the Earl of Thornbury, who considers the young widow fair game for seduction. She thinks that they are just good friends, but when Lady Ware overhears what he is discussing with his friend, she flees back home. Perhaps the seaside resort of Sidmouth might be a good place to lie low…

Regency readers will also know this author as Emily Hendrickson and Emily Johnson. If you know these names, then you are probably eagerly anticipating a good read. There is a lot more in here to enjoy than just a love story; read about a typical house party and what Sidmouth was like in those days. Lady Ware and her friends participate in a variety of activities from visiting ruins to sea bathing and growing roses, and even discuss the popular books, card games and topics of the time. Smuggling is carried on in the background, and for once those participating are shown as more than just heroes or villains. In short, unless you possess a time machine, this is the nearest you are going to get to actually experiencing the Regency period, so dive in and enjoy. You won’t be disappointed.
