The Rake and the Redhead
Dancy series book 5 / Friends series book 1
by Emily Johnson
Hyacinthe Dancy first encountered Blase, Lord Norwood, during her London Season, and has
since been trying to forget him. Staying with her cousin Jane in a quiet village seems like
the last place to encounter him, but there he is. He is also the one who is keen to destroy
the village to create a more pleasing view from his home; surely he cannot be allowed to get
his own way?
Here is another novel about the Dancy family, this time the cousin of the original family
and sister to Sir Peter Dancy from Miss Cheney’s Charade (also
reviewed on this site).
This time we leave the glamor of the Season far behind, as this is set entirely in a rural
village, but it gives a good idea of what life would have been like in such a location in
those days. As well as the romance there is a story about missing jewels and a ruinous house
with a mysterious past to entertain the reader, plus plenty of humor. As I have said in
previous reviews this author has the happy gift of immersing the reader in the period, never
parading her research but using it as an underpinning to these enjoyable tales. If you want
to read about life in the Regency, look no further. |
