Steampunk romance is an acquired taste in my opinion. This being my first foray into the
genre makes me less than an expert on such matters. However, MacAlister’s past record for
writing awesome romance will make her fans want to indulge in her latest book, Steamed.
A lab explosion sends computer tech Jack Fletcher and his sister into an alternate realm.
A realm full of flying steam ships, a lady captain, and the equivalent of the Victorian era.
When Jack regains consciousness, he meets Octavia Pye, one of the most sensually attractive
women he’s ever met. Although she looks at him as if he’s crazy when he tells her he’s from
a reality she can't even fathom, he still wants to get up close and personal with the captain.
Captain Octavia must insure the safety of her cargo and crew, so she puts Jack and his
sister under cabin arrest until she can decide what she will do with her prisoners. The
more she questions Jack, the more she discovers he is a man who could easily get under her
skin as well as her skirt. When her ship is attacked, Jack becomes embroiled in the fight,
and afterwards they discover they have more in common than they first thought.
When his sister is imprisoned by the Emperor’s men and is scheduled for execution, Jack
and Octavia stand side by side in an effort to bring her back alive, only to find themselves
prisoners as well. Time is running out for Jack and Octavia, and they wonder if the love they
are beginning to share will be enough to win out over death.
