Taming The Highland Bride

by Lynsay Sands

I fell in love with the characters of Devil Of The Highlands, also reviewed at Myshelf, and to see them back in this book was awesome. Ms. Sands has a way of pulling a reader in regardless of which genre she chooses to write. The heroine, Merewen, is courageous, endearing, and someone I would love to meet. The hero, Alexander, is battle-scarred, a bit skittish when it comes to love, but he is an awesome hunk.

Merewen has always taken care of home and family. When her father and brothers get drunk, she locks up the liquor, thus earning her the nickname "The Stewart Shrew." A name her betrothed drops on her when she meets him for the first time. First and last time as far as Merry is concerned—the man is a drunkard and violent to boot—not to mention a cursed Englishman.

Lord Alexander d’Aumesbery is home from the Crusades. His mood is foul, his sister is married to a man called The Devil, and he must honor a marriage contract his deceased father set up when Alex was just a child. He has a toothache that is killing him, and when he lays eyes on his future bride, he definitely does not put his best foot forward. Now, he must convince the sensual beauty with a sharp tongue that he is a gentleman.

Merry and Alex both try to make their marriage work, but forces are against them. Alex seems to be drunk at night, although he swears he has not had a drink, plus someone is trying to kill him. When suspicion turns to Merry, she must prove her innocence to Alex’s men as well as to the man who is fast winning her heart. Alex is also trying to prove her innocence, but before they can unmask the real culprit, they are in the fight for their lives.
