Then Comes Seduction
Huxtable Family Series – Book II
By Mary Balogh
Jasper Finley, Baron Montford is not a man to resist a bet, and
although he has just turned twenty-five nobody can accuse him of
being old and boring. He is London’s most reckless rake,
and when he is wagered that he cannot seduce the Season’s
most virtuous virgin Katherine Huxtable he is naturally keen to
show his mettle. But things don’t go according to plan
and instead three years elapse before the pair see each other again.
They both find the other attractive…what is holding them back?
This is another cracking Regency from this deservedly popular writer,
who manages to combine a Georgette Heyer style of immersion into
the period with some sizzling passion. Most of this is wisely
post-marital -- for the sake of realism -- but the rest of the time
there is the crackle of attraction, and plenty of actual romance.
We feel we really get to know the characters in this book (some
of them we met in the first book First
Comes Marriage, also reviewed on this site) and this makes
the story so much more interesting and sexy too. It is not
a short book but plenty happens to keep the tale rolling merrily
along, from all the delights of a London season to organizing house
parties and other events from a country house. Highly recommended
to anybody looking for a good Regency romance.
