Heather Sloan
is an FBI agent spending the day with her sister, Kat, on a helicopter
ride. Out of nowhere, the pilot starts yelling that they need to
make sure their seatbelts are secure. The ride starts to get rough,
and it becomes clear that they are going to crash. After the crash,
Kat’s last words to her sister tell Heather to follow the
drugs. After hearing Kat’s last words, Heather passes out.
Jeremy Latham
is a deputy sheriff assigned to the case. Just as he is headed to
Heather’s room, he hears a scream. He runs towards it just
in time to see a man coming out of her room. Jeremy grabs the man,
but he gets away. When Jeremy gets to Heather, she is screaming
that something was put into her IV and it’s burning its way
up her arm. Jeremy calls for help as he makes a tourniquet to stop
it while he waits for help.
When Heather
wakes up again, she feels someone holding her hand. Jeremy introduces
himself and thus begins their journey to find out who rigged the
helicopter, killed Kat, and now seems to be trying to kill Heather.
Throughout the investigation, Jeremy and Heather begin to learn
more about each other and the things that have weakened their faith
in God. Together they must learn how to trust in God again and to
trust each other. As they work the investigation, Jeremy and Heather
find they are drawn to one another. Can they learn to trust God,
each other, and even trust themselves? Can they accept the feelings
that they are beginning to have for each other?
Liz Johnson
has a winner here. Code of Justice is a great read. It
has suspense, mystery, romance, and a lesson on how, if we trust
God to show us the way, He will direct our path. It also shows how
certain things must happen before God will reveal to us the purpose
of the events happening around us and to us. Not only is this a
good who-done-it, but I found myself wishing I could reach through
the book and knock Jeremy and Heather’s heads together when
they would start snapping at each other. Now that’s a sign
you’re really getting into the characters. This is a book
that anyone should enjoy. I highly recommend it.
