Felicity Taylor writes a society gossip column for The Evening
Gazette under the fake name of Lord X to protect her identity. To
protect her best friend from marrying a scoundrel, she sets out
to expose Ian Lennard, Viscount St. Clair, as a rake of the first
kind by writing about him in her column. But Felicity never considered
the repercussions of not checking the facts of her assumptions.
Now the Viscount is coming after her and threatening her income,
which is barely feeding her brothers and keeping a roof over their
heads.
After reading the accusations that he is keeping a mistress, Ian
is determined to find the mysterious writer and demand a retraction.
But Ian is not prepared for what he finds. When he meets Felicity
and learns that she is the writer of the offending article, he informs
her that if he loses his intended bride, that Felicity will have
to either be the replacement bride or she will have to help him
find a replacement. Ian needs an heir and his time is running out.
Felicity needs a husband who is willing to accept her and the responsibility
of her brothers as well. Can Ian and Felicity come to a meeting
of the minds and save each other? And what will Ian do when he realizes
that he has fallen in love with Felicity and that he will have to
win her trust?
Jeffries has outdone herself with this one. From her quotes from
Lord X throughout the story to the battles between Ian and Felicity,
Jeffries has a story that keeps you on your toes and turning pages
to find out what will happen next. Ian fights to keep his secrets
from all, but Felicity is determined to find them out. Felicity
tries to keep secret that her inheritance will never come because
of her father’s debts, but Ian finally discovers the truth.
Jeffries knows how to tell a story. I loved it. I know you will
too.
