Mallory Edwards,
a country heiress, had just lost her father a few weeks ago. Now
she is doing what she must to keep her inheritance, Craige Castle.
She is marrying John Barron, a man she had never met until the day
before her wedding. The night of her wedding, after she had fallen
asleep, John Barron leaves and deserts his new wife and disappears
for seven years.
John Barron
is called home from his studies by his father under false pretenses.
Once he arrives home, his father informs him that John is to marry
a young heiress. John is furious. He had other plans for his life.
But, as always, he did his father’s bidding. When he enters
the bed chamber to do his duty, his new wife falls asleep. After
checking her glass of wine he finds that she has been drugged. It’s
the final straw. John decides to do what he’s always wanted
to do. He leaves his wife, buys his commission and disappears.
Seven years
later, Mallory hears of her husband’s return. She is determined
to confront him and demand a divorce. However, she learns that she
could be going to prison for her husband’s debts. John and
Mallory must work together to find the man who has stolen John’s
fortune and left him in debt. Mallory vows not to leave John alone
until he grants her a divorce. John is determined to win Mallory’s
heart and give her the marriage that she deserves.
Cathy Maxwell
has another “Can’t put it down till it’s done”
book. It has action, mystery, and sexual tension that keeps you
reading to find out what will happen next. I enjoy the way that
Maxwell builds her characters. She does a great job of filling in
the story without over doing it. You end up falling in love with
the main characters while you watch as things come together. This
book is a great read. You’ll love it.
