As a young girl, Sìleas (SHEE-las) depended on Ian MacDonald to be her knight in shining armor. It was her dream to one day be his wife and raise a family with him. However, on his last attempt to rescue her, Ian compromised her virtue and was forced to marry her. Sìleas was an awkward, unattractive girl. Ian didn’t want anything to do with the marriage. He was forced to give up the woman he had planned to marry for Sìleas and said mean things about her to his father while she listened from the shadows. After the wedding, Ian left to fight abroad.

Five years later, Ian returns to take care of his family and make amends for his leaving. His wife has grown into a strong beautiful woman and he realizes he’s ready to fight for her. But he finds he has competition for his wife and a war is in the wind to save his clan as well.

This is the first book in Mallory’s new Return of the Highlander series. It is a great story that shows the constant struggles within the clans. Mallory grabs you right from the beginning and doesn’t let go till the end with you wanting more. I enjoy Mallory’s style of writing and the way she tells the story. This is a must read book. I can’t wait to read the rest in the series when they come out. I highly recommend this book for lovers of historical romance and highlanders.
