In
1740 London, with no money of her own, Artemis Greaves has
no other choice but to become the companion to her wealthy
cousin Lady Penelope. Now due to a stupid wager the two of
them are about to be attacked or worse. When it looks like
all hope is lost, the Ghost of St Giles appears and saves
them. This is a real person – think superhero –
not an actual ghost. Artemis has her doubts that he is as
bad as they claim. The Ghost inadvertently left something
in her hand before he departed. This makes her think he might
be a gentleman in disguise.
It is during a house party at Pelham House that Artemis realizes
who wears the mask of the Ghost of St Giles. Will she be able
to blackmail him into getting her twin brother Apollo released
from Bedlam? Things go from bad to worse when Artemis receives
a note saying her brother is dying. Will Artemis be able to
rescue him in time?
Things to ponder: Why did the Ghost of St Giles make sure
the two ladies returned home safely? Why was Apollo arrested?
Will the Duke of Wakefield propose to Lady Penelope before
his older rival?
Elizabeth Hoyt has woven an intricate tale of love, intrigue,
revenge and daring-do. Make sure your calendar is clear because
once you start reading this book you will not be able to put
it down. This was my first Elizabeth Hoyt book. I can tell
you that it will not be my last. This well plotted book will
keep you turning those pages. The author has made these characters
come alive and I look forward to reading all the other books
in this delightful series. So, if you like a story that is
filled with romance, secrets and a Batman-like character,
then you should be reading Duke of Midnight.
