This is the story of the two families that live at Cavendon Hall in Yorkshire, England. The Inghams are the owners of the sprawling estate. The Swanns have been caring for the Ingham family for many generations. The lives of these two families are so closely entwined, they almost seem part of one family. But each family never forgets their place. The coming of the first World War will test them all in ways they can't yet imagine. These two proud families will come together to protect the honor of one young woman after her virtue is destroyed in a brutal attack.

Barbara Taylor Bradford brings us a riveting saga that spans more than a decade (1913-1929). World War I is in the near future and will change the lives and relationships of those who live in Cavendon Hall. The story pulls you right in and I found it hard to put this book down. I had to know what would happen next. The author weaves a tale that brings together the lives of all the characters. The story is so well written I felt I was watching everything as it took place. It has a plot that doesn't stop. We become privy to romance, secrets and the horror of war. I grew to love these characters and I look forward to visiting them in the sequel – The Cavendon Women. So if you are a fan of Downton Abbey, then you should be reading Cavendon Hall.
