When
I first started listening to the audio-book I wasn’t
really sure if I would like it or not. I didn’t really
know what genre this book would fall into until I looked online
about what the book was supposed to be about; I listened to
3 chapters before I decided to find out what the book was
about. I tried to get into the audio-book the longer I listened
to it, but I couldn’t really like the book or the plot
of the story. I felt like it sounded just like a lot of other
romance and thriller type books that have been released lately.
I like the main female character “Irina”; I really
liked her personality, but I couldn’t get into the other
characters and I especially didn’t like “Andrei.”
I felt like “Irina” could have been a little more
independent and self-reliant, but the way the author made
her seem was that she was wrapped around “Andrei’s”
finger. There were times where I really liked “Irina”
and other times where I couldn’t stand her.
I really
enjoyed the listening to the narrator, Veronica Den, I thought
she did an excellent job reading this story; she gave it emotion
and I didn’t have a hard time understanding her. Veronica
Den has narrated the entire The Artists trilogy book series
as well as In the Red. I think the author could have
made the book a little better than it was had she made the
female character a little stronger and more self-reliant.
I loved that Ms. Shapiro had a little twist in the story in
the way that she brought a Russian bride into the mix, but
I still wasn’t very interested in the story by the time
the bride was brought into the mix. I think Ms. Shapiro will
still be a wonderful author to read; I just didn’t like
this story. Out of a score of 10 I give In the Red a “4”,
Ms. Shapiro a “7”, and Ms. Den as narrator a “9.”
