| A MASKED DECEPTION
By Mary Balogh Severn House - 1999 ISBN 0727854607 – Hardback Romance / Regency Reviewed by: Rachel Hyde, MyShelf.Com Buy It Here Margaret Wells is to marry the man she loves best in the world, the dashing Earl of Brampton. She has been in love with him for six years, ever since they met and kissed at a ball. Trouble is it was a masked ball and she was dressed as Marie Antoinette, complete with French accent and plenty of ooh la la. Normally she is prim, proper and rather dull when not in disguise and the Earl thinks that is all there is to her and he is under orders from his mother to produce an heir. Margaret wants him to fall in love with her but lacks the courage to behave in the way she had at the ball sans the costume so when her irrepressible younger sister Charlotte suggests she don the disguise again and arrange an assignation in Vauxhall Gardens she agrees. Soon she has rather more on her plate than she can manage and to cap it all she has to bring out Charlotte as well and see her married. This is an entertaining Regency in the true Heyer tradition complete with bucks and balls, Almacks and assignations. One to read and enjoy for a short, sweet treat. |
