Going Postal
Disc
World
By Terry Pratchett
The
comedy Of DiscWorld continues in Going Postal. Moist von
Lipwig was to be hanged. However, he was of the opinion that his
thefts were not of the nature to require hanging. Of course, the
leadership of Ankh-Morpork was of a different opinion.
When the time came that he was to actually be
hanged, something strange happened. For some reason, when he dropped
through the trap door, Moist von Lipwig failed to die. He found
himself in Lord Vetinari's office being given a choice. He could
either walk out of the office or take a job as Postmaster General.
When he looked out the door that seemed to be the only exit from
Vetinari's office, there was no floor for several stories. It was
a choice of death or a job. Moist took the job.
It was worse than he imagined. Not
only was his parole officer a very large golem named Mr. Pump, there
had been no letters delivered by the post office in more than forty
years. The rooms in the post office bulged with undelivered mail.
Even the apartment he was promised was stacked to the ceiling with
old letters. The only two employees that he found were Junior Postman
Groat and Apprentice Postman Stanley. It was Moist's job to get
the mail moving. It seemed impossible, but he was determined to
get it done.
Going Postal is yet another hilarious
adventure in DiscWorld. Peopled with characters with names like
Moist von Lipwig, Adora Belle Dearheart, Crispin Horsefry and Reacher
Gilt, Ankh-Morpork is a city with a lot of problems. The local tyrant,
Lord Vetinari, has a unique way of getting the problems solved.
Moist von Lipwig is a prime example of a con man conned into going
straight. Even if you've never read Terry Pratchett before, you
will fall in love with Going Postal. Pick up a copy and
enjoy!
