Bones of the Dragon
Dragonships— Book 1

by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman

Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman have done it again. These best-selling authors have  teamed up to create a brand new fantasy world. As you open the book, you enter the world of the Vindrasi, a Viking-type warrior civilization ruled by ancient gods and protected by fierce dragons. But years of drought and bad luck have left the clans without much fighting spirit. Skylan Ivorson, the hot-blooded eighteen-year-old son of the Torgun clan's leader, craves action. When Skylan becomes Chief of Chiefs, he will make everything right.

Be careful what you wish for... Skylan does become the new leader of the Torgun, but things do not go well for him. There is a great war being fought between the ancient gods and a new generation seeking their power. And the battle is not going well for the old ones. Skylan has to fend off attacking ogres, then recover the powerful dragonbone they have stolen. Entwined throughout these complications is Skylan's own personal battle for his one true love, Aylaen. But, does she share his feelings?

Weis and Hickman have added just the right amount of fantasy to their story. It is sprinkled with ogres, dragons, and magical creatures to keep readers turning the pages. I found it hard to put down each night. I had to see if Skylan was as self-centered and bullheaded in the next chapter as he was when I left him. He is so... so much the eighteen-year-old!

Bones of the Dragon is the first of six novels centering around the Vindrasi clans and their Dragonships. This series is destined to share the best-seller shelf alongside Weis and Hickman's other fantasy worlds: Dragonlance, Darksword and Death Gate Cycle. I highly recommend Bones of the Dragon for anyone wanting to escape to an exciting, new world.
