Ding Dong The Witch is Dead . . .
~Lyrics from The Wizard of Oz
The Wicked Witch of the West is Dead! Was she as wicked as all thought, or someone who was
simply misunderstood? Elphaba Thropp was better known as the Wicked Witch of the West, with her
trademark green skin, floppy pointy hat, and flying broom.
Although the Wicked Witch of the West was dead, her legacy lives on in her son Liir. She kept
his existence a secret to protect him from those who would want to destroy him. Liir fondly
remembered his mother as someone he loved.
Years later, evil rears its ugly head in Emerald City when a string of unexplained murders
leaves the town in an uproar. It is rumored the bloodshed is the work of the barbaric hands
of the Yunamatas.
Liir takes on the responsibility for bringing an end to the senseless murders and restoring
the land to the way he once knew it. He will call upon his mother’s magic cape and broom to
provide him the courage to fight the unknown. Will he be successful in his quest, or will he
suffer the fate of his mother?
Last year, I was fortunate enough to be able to view Wicked on Broadway. I must say
that I will never watch the Wizard of Oz in the same way. I was overjoyed to have been the
reviewer selected to review this title. It allowed me to take what I learned from Broadway
and carry it forward in this continuation book. Gregory Maguire is a true master of drama.
His work is highly regarded and has kept Wicked at the top of Broadway for ten years
running. It is with great pleasure that I give this book my highest form of recommendation.
