Spiral Hunt

by Margaret Ronald

Genevieve Scelan has a special ability. She is able to find things by the way things smell. Some have a special gift with other senses, Evie’s is with scent. Evie is able to track down many missing things for people: keys, books, and even other people. Evie is aware of a magical undercurrent under the streets of Boston, MA. One night, Evie is awoken by a phone call from her past and sent down through the magical undercurrent when trying to rescue herself and others before everything is destroyed.

Margaret Ronald has done a fantastic job in her debut novel. She has given enough information about Genevieve Scelan to give readers a sense of what she is and enough desire for readers to continue to want to learn more about her and her special abilities. She has taken an ability that is not usually written about and has done a fine job in giving details of how one lives with that ability.

The environment of Boston adds to the story as it is a historical city with enough hiding places for a magical underground. A story such as Spiral Hunt could only take place in a city with a rich historical nature such as Boston or New York City.
