The Sword of the Lady
Change Series, No. 3
by S.M.
Stirling
 This
novel Novel of the Change is a story of a shattered United States
after all the machines stopped running. The states no longer
exist as they once did, and even those areas that retained some form
of civilization were dangerous places to be.
Rudi MacKenzie and his friend, Edain were in a totally uncivilized
area, out on the prairie, surrounded by cannibals, with no chance
of surviving without assistance. They had no idea how many cannibals
were hiding in the tall grass around them, but the cannibals didn’t
know they were hiding in the grass, either. As long as they
didn’t run together, they would be all right.
Of course, Rudi and Edain knew none of the people here, but there
were two groups of them present. While he knew one group was
there because he could see them, Rudi only knew the others were there
from pure gut instinct honed in battle. He needed allies, so
he chose to help the group which he could see was riding into a deadly
trap.
An action-packed tale of a man’s quest to find the legendary
Sword of the Lady, this combination of science fiction with fantasy
is nonstop action. The scenery, the fashion of the time, the
food and the people are thoroughly described and well portrayed.
The people are seem quite real, and could be found anywhere after
the fall of any great civilization.
The battles were fought with swords, spears and axes, and primitive
weapons made of modern materials --, perhaps even more brutal than
their stone and iron ancestorsprecursors. There is also magic
involved. It proves to be the weapon needed to bring peace to
a troubled world. Fantasy and science fiction lovers alike will
love this series.
