Raven Whitney is a telepathic hunter of serial killers. She helps to catch some of the most depraved criminals. However, her gift and her work keep her from getting close to others and have drained her body and spirit. In great need of a vacation full of rest and rejuvenation, Raven heads for the Carpathian Mountains.

Mikhail Dubrinsky is the Prince of the Carpathians. He is the powerful leader of a wise and secret ancient race that thrives in the night. Thousands of years old, Mikhail is experiencing the despair and fear all males of his race feel when they have not found their life mate. While contemplating the end of his life, Mikhail senses and hears his mind being touched by a woman. As he speaks to her telepathically, he feels himself drawn to her more and more. Once he realizes she is his life mate, Mikhail must fight two battles; one to protect his race and another to win her acceptance of him. Although Raven is drawn to Mikhail, she also fears him and his need to dominate her. She is afraid of losing her independence and who she is, if she gives into him. But one dark night, Mikhail must make the choice for her to save her life.

Christine Feehan made a good choice. I never had the chance to read the original release of this book, but I can’t imagine reading it without everything that is in this one. Raven and Mikhail’s meeting, watching their desire for each other grow, and seeing the loyalty and respect of his race as he tries to protect them and Raven. This special edition of Dark Prince is a real prize. Not only does it open a new world with the Carpathians, but it’s a great way to start off reading the Dark series. I can’t wait to read more. I’m so glad I got to read this version first.
