In this thirteenth novel of the Dresden Files, Harry Dresden is
dead. At least, he's pretty sure he's dead. But apparently there
has been some problem with exactly how he died, so he's sent back
to earth as a ghost to discover who murdered him and to help his
friends. It seems Dresden's death has left a lot of damage in its
wake. But Harry quickly finds that being a ghost has even more rules
than being a wizard. Will he figure them out in time to save his
friends and himself?
I'm a huge Dresden Files fan, so each time a book comes out, I
giggle foolishly in anticipation. This one definitely didn't disappoint
as there are more twists and turns than ever before. And if you
can get all the way through to the end without a few tears, you're
made of sterner stuff than I am. I loved the handling of "ghost
rules" and even the weird physics of being a spook. Have you
ever wondered how ghosts pass through walls but manage not to fall
through floors? Jim Butcher has, and he's come up with some great
logic for it. In fact, the book works well together. Though it's
kind of tough seeing just how much each character is suffering,
we find their pain completely believable. All the characters have
grown and matured through the series and this book demonstrates
that well. For fans, this one truly delivers.
