Genevieve Scelan is in trouble. Without realizing what she was doing, she made a bad bargain. She is a supernatural tracker known as “Hound” for her extraordinary power of scent and as a fanatic Red Sox fan. Now that she has eradicated the evil cabal that oppressed Boston’s undercurrent for centuries, she wishes she could leave magic behind. To add to her problems, her talent is fading just as the local adepts’ squabbles are turning ugly, and now she has discovered that she owes a very large debt to someone… or something. Debts are taken very seriously in the undercurrent.

To make things even more interesting, Evie only has until midwinter to pay up, or else. She finally gets a job that might save her. She can’t pass it up even if she has to break all her own rules to take it. She will trace the very bones of Boston itself to protect both the city and the people she loves, even with danger at her back and uncertain allies beside her.

Evie must find a way to fight off an evil that is trying to destroy the city she loves, while at the same time protecting the people she loves from that and other forces. While at the same time, she must find a way to save herself from the undercurrent that she owes a huge debt to. Can she do all this and still survive? Will she have to leave behind the man she loves?

This was a very slow read for me. It seemed like it took me forever to finish it. I have no doubt that for those who are into the magic and such will enjoy it immensely. This is the third book of this series. Maybe if I had read the other two first, it would have meant more to me. However, I couldn't get into the magic and such. Ronald does seem to do a good job of explaining things as she goes along in the story. There are some interesting characters. It does seem to have a very dark side to it. This was just not my cup of tea. I'm sure others who enjoy this kind of story will like it very much.

Reviewer's Note: Strong Language, Sexual Content, Witches, Magic, Hell Hounds, etc.
