Seth Graham-Smith has given history a twist, a hard twist, toward
the bizarre. It's beautifully written with so much truth in it,
it reads like a biography.
Young Abe Lincoln learned about vampires at a very early age. He
began killing them before he was thirteen. His first kill made him
physically ill. The thought of killing sickened him; the knowledge
that he had taken the life of another living being made him emotionally
ill. Over and over he kept seeing the stark terror on the man's
face as his life slipped away. He vowed he would never kill again.
Then, he learned that his mother had died from a fever inflicted
by a vampire. He was devastated to know that his beloved mother
was now a vampire, a blood-thirsty killer. He then vowed to kill
as many vampires as he could before he died. He never wanted another
child to endure what he had gone through. And then he met Henry.
Henry was a vampire who hated those who preyed on the living and
healthy, not on the sick, weak and dying.
Henry gave Abe a mission. He gave him a name, a vampire who preyed
on children. This time, Abe didn't feel sick when he made the kill.
This book contains a lot of biographical information about Abraham
Lincoln, enough that it's hard to tell where the truth leaves off
and the fiction begins. That kind of blending takes some expert
writing. Another good thing is the lack of profanity and graphic
sex. Kudos for Mr. Graham-Smith for that! Kudos also to Scott Holst!
His reading brought the story and its people to life.
