Half-Light City

Shadow was born of a fae mother. She had no place among her people because she was considered an abomination. Shadow was a wraith. She was given into service to Lucius, the Blood Lord. He raised her to become his most feared assassin. She was his slave and a slave to a need only he could fulfill.

Then, one day, Lucius orders her to kill Simon DuCaine, a powerful sunmage. In the blazing light of Simon's magic her own disappears. She needs the dark and shadows for hers to work. Instead of seeking revenge, he shows her mercy. He wants to free her from Lucius, but she knows that is not possible. Lucius and others of his kind will never allow it.

Simon believes Shadow is savable, she doesn't. Who will turn out to be right? Will Simon still want to save her when he learns her secrets?

Shadow Kin is the first in a new series by M. J. Scott. I found it to be quite unique in both the world that is built in the story and in the manner it was written. It grabbed me from the first page. I couldn't put it down. It puts a new twist on Vampires and the Fae. If you like fantasy, you'll love this one.
