At the
end of the first book in the House Immortal series, machinations
between the different "houses" that run the world
had resulted in a night of assassinations and chaos that turns
the world against the galvanized-immortals who are stitched
together like Frankenstein's creature. As a result of that
night, Infinity Bell opens with Matilda Case, a galvanized,
on the run with the people who mean the most to her in the
world. They have to get back to the Case farm so that Matilda's
brother can repair time and save the lives of all the galvanized.
This book is a much more straight-forward chase novel since
we learned who the bad guys were in the first novel, and they
all pretty much keep their spots. Despite the simpler plot,
the author keeps us turning pages simply by the excitement
and fascination at this world she's created and peopled so
uniquely. And the book ended with a twist every bit as game-changing
as the first novel. It's a gutsy move to turn your world inside
out with each novel in a series, and the author has pulled
it off well. I'd recommend reading House Immortal before
Infinity Bell, but that will just double your reading
pleasure - the series is that good.
