For
fans of Kim Harrison's Hollows books, this anthology offers
tales that deepen our understanding of Ivy, Trent, Jenks,
and the demon Al -- but the stories also stand alone, not
spoiling any of the Hollows books. Still, the Hollows stories
aren't all the book offers. Harrison explores other ideas,
other twists on supernatural characters including dryads,
vampires, and demons. For fans of Harrison who track down
every story she writes, much of Into the Woods will
be familiar as most of the stories are reprints from other
sources -- still, the first runs are wonderful. For the first
time, we learn exactly what happened on the joint quest undertaken
by Trent and Jenks. And the non-Hollows stories left me wishing
for more time in each of those worlds as well. For anyone
who loves a really good urban fantasy anthology and for those
who love the Hollows books, this anthology is a winner. I
flew through it at blinding speed, not because it's short
(which it isn't) but because it really is that good.
