Special
Agent Emma Monroe is a siren looking for redemption. If she
saves enough people, she hopes to lift the curse that makes
loving anyone a deadly risk. The fact that she's in love with
her werewolf partner Zack doesn't help - luckily and magically
he doesn't remember their past affair. Then as if her lovelife
isn't complicated enough, Zack and Emma are on a kidnapping
case with otherworldly ties as well. Emma's curse limits how
much she can pull on her siren powers to solve crimes as there's
always a price, but it means Emma comes across sometimes as
a fairly ineffective agent. The romantic elements are full
of heat and conflict, though I'm slightly jaded on the whole
supernatural love triangle thing - especially when one of
the guys is a vampire and both of the guys are a bit of a
jerk. Still, I like seeing a bit of Greek mythology woven
into a tale, and Demeter is wonderfully evil. I found the
book engaging and interesting, well worth a read even if not
my new favorite series.
