It's
almost difficult to believe that a character can remain fresh
and compelling after fifteen novels, but somehow Harry Dresden
manages to fascinate every time he appears on the page. In
Skin Game, Dresden is still Mab's winter knight,
and he's been sent on another assignment he hates. This time,
he must help the much-hated Nicodemus Archleone retrieve something
from the most secure location in any world. The vault belongs
to Hades, and no one is expected to come out of this one alive
- but Harry never fails to turn an expectations on its head.
The book is a roller coaster of scary monsters, death traps
and things that blow up - more than enough to keep you turning
pages with a mixture of desperate desire to know how it ends
and sadness that it'll ever end at all. As always, Harry is
a nice mix of angst and snark, and there's a twist ending
that is a bit of a reach stylistically, but I still found
it fun. For fans of the Dresden Files, this one is definitely
a keeper and leaves us eager for more.
