In
this ninth book in the series, Pepper Martin is Garden View
Cemetery's new community relations manager, but she has a
few more relations to deal with than most. Pepper can see
ghosts and they always want something. The newest spector
can't quite communicate what he wants since he's tied up,
gagged, and dripping all over the floor -- but Pepper still
can't ignore him. When the ghost turns out to be her ex-boyfriend's
former partner, a cop who may or may not have been dirty,
Pepper may finally have the goods to convince Quinn that she
sees dead people. This is my first experience in this charming
series, but each novel stands alone well. The slightly ditzy
main character brought humor and charm and a nice change from
so many super-butt-kicking heroines in urban fantasy today.
In fact, I enjoyed the imperfections in all the characters,
even if a bit improbably zany at times. The plot moved quickly
but clearly. If you like your paranormal on the light side,
Pepper Martin is the heroine for you. Personally, I like a
good love story that makes me laugh and creeps me out -- what
could be a better guilty pleasure than that?
