Changeling
turned Knight Toby Daye must face her past as never before
and discover some truths she has trouble accepting. The twin
brother of the man October trusts above any other has returned,
and Simon is the quintessential evil twin -- or is he? Toby
must work out the allies from the villains in a situation
where even her staunchest allies can jump to the other side
in a moment. All of this could be head-achingly confusing,
but Seanan McGuire does her usual masterful job of keeping
us oriented during the twists and turns of the story. And
though we never completely know what kind of bad, the "big
bad" of this story was planning, we still find the fight
compelling. Add to that the delightful creepienss inherent
in any fey stories that give us just enough of the alien quality
of the characters to make them chilling without being campy.
Plus, I enjoy any adventure with a bit of Tybalt in it. Who
wouldn't fall for the king of cats? I wouldn't consider this
a good entry point to the series, but for long-time fans,
this one is definitely a keeper.
