As
the author's notes at the back of the book say, this book
is one of the more authors in the history of Doctor Who. The
novelization is by James Goss. The original script came from
David Fisher but was then rewritten and expanded and just
changed hugely by Douglas Adams. Ultimately, it became one
of the most watched multi-part episodes of Doctor Who and
one I remember well from my childhood when Tom Baker was my
Doctor. City of Death is a heist story about art and a twisty
tale of how mankind came to be where it is, and a silly look
at how the Doctor spends a holiday. The book combines things
from script notes with the story as it actually aired to give
a much deeper, more dimensional story even than the one I
remember. For a fan who grew up feeling that unique combination
of amused and disturbed, the book was a nostalgic romp that
connected me with that young and eager fan. I also loved the
depiction of Paris, which becomes a character all its own
in this retelling. For fans of Doctor Who, this is a must-have
look at the past.
