Tiger
wasn't interested in being a hero. She wanted to be left alone
with her ghosts in the abandoned military installation. She
knew there was no place in the world for a genetically engineered
creature like her. But the one thing Tiger cannot turn her
back on is children, and one damaged little girl forces her
into a fight that may destroy everything.
I always
love a believable reluctant hero, and Tiger is as reluctant
as they come -- but as she's dragged inch by inch into a mess
she cannot imagine surviving, the reader is glued to the page
following her. I loved the characterization in this book,
and even the mildly graphic sex scenes couldn't distract me
from the compelling mission Tiger faces. The characters are
all complex and filled with secrets, yet completely believable
in their interactions, and the world building is absolutely
fascinating and rich. A terrific opening shot in the new series,
CITY OF LIGHT has a completely satisfying story arc while
leaving the reader eager to know what comes next.
