In
the Witches of Echo Park, a coven of blood-sisters
(which is a kind of bond, not a kind of vampire), are preparing
for the loss of their leader and the addition of a new sister.
They are also preparing for the end of everything, if they
don't do something about a mysterious group called "The
Flood." The story is told in alternating viewpoints,
which slows the narrative down quite a bit, but meeting each
of these women was interesting and their powers and relationships
was engaging to explore. There are also some unexpected sexy
bits, fairly graphic (if readers don't like that sort of thing),
but they're few and far between. I do like a nice good vs.
evil plot, and the story does pick up near the end, suggesting
the future books might have a bit more plot action, which
would be good. I'll be reading the next book in the series,
but I'm on the fence beyond that since I tend to like more
plot action. But if you love witches and don't mind a slow
build, there's a lot here to enjoy.
