The
Cortisol Connection
Why Stress Makes You Fat and Ruins
Your Health-And What You Can Do About It
By Shawn
Talbott, PH.D
The Cortisol Connection takes
a look at a stress hormone, cortisol, and how it plays a part in
why some people might be overweight. The book takes a comprehensive
look at how the body deals with stress and the role of cortisol.
The comprehensiveness might be overwhelming to the everyday reader.
Even though this book might not work for the everyday reader, it
does provide a lot of insight that might be useful for doctors and
other medical professionals.
The
research that Dr. Talbott does shows how the level of cortisol plays
a part in obesity, diabetes, hypertension, depression and osteoporosis.
He provides a thorough list on supplements and how they might work
for weight loss and how some do not. He provides what he calls the
SENSE program (stress management, exercise, nutrition, supplementation,
evaluation). He takes them step-by-step. He provides ideas of how
to reduce stress that could help the reader lose weight. He provides
some common-sense advice like getting enough sleep at night.
