What is an artist to do when diet after diet has failed and once again she feels the need to drop a few pounds? Well,
artist Janice Taylor found herself once more in line at a weight center waiting to be weighed and already going
through a list in her mind how this diet would be one of many that failed.
But then she had that "light bulb" moment. Instead of tracking every bite she put in her mouth, she would take
that obsession elsewhere. She would create food-centric art whenever the need to nosh attack.
So Janice quit her job, used her new mantra and 50 pounds later, realized she had hit on a winning combination
for her and perhaps many others. She combines her art, love of food and a fascination with nuns, (as a child she
lived near a convent and was never spoken down to about her weight) and wrote this fun book.
Sure, there are weight loss hints and recipes, tips on nutrition and self image, but it is presented in a fun
and kitschy way. Also, there are neat and very easy to follow instructions on lots of art projects that include
glitter and glue. What's not to love?
Scattered throughout are weighty confessions and cute fat-oids that give the reader/dieter little bits that
encourage and allow them to forgive themselves if necessary.
Most of the artwork is Catholic-based, Janice's choice because of the good feelings she had about nuns since
childhood. This book was lots of fun and I am sure that many would enjoy it, overweight or not!
